Children's Ministry

Kingdom Kids

The same Holy Spirit that raised Jesus from the dead, that fell upon the disciples in the upper room anointing them with power to heal the sick, to cause the blind to see and the lame to walk is the same Holy Spirit that is for the children today. Our vision and mission for the children is to instill an appreciation and understanding of the Word of God, helping them to have a salvation encounter with the Lord, and to receive the Baptism of the Holy Spirit. We endeavor to create an atmosphere where the children can develop their individual spiritual gifts and talents as well as developing a kingdom mentality. Our desire is for our children to be strong in the Lord and equipped early in life. The children, even the youngest, are not only receptive (Mark 10:15), but are hearing God, experiencing visions and dreams, prophesying (Acts 2:17), praying for the sick, interceding and experiencing intimate worship.

The children’s ministry consists of children nursery through 12. The children’s are divided into age-appropriate classes so that the needs of the basic age groups can most easily be addressed.

Sylvia Crutchfield

Pastor, Children's Ministry Leader

Sylvia Crutchfield was born in Oakdale, Louisiana.  At the age of two her family moved to Lake Charles, Louisiana where she lived until she was 29 years old.  Her fondest memory when growing up was the family prayer time in the evenings before going to bed where her father read from a Bible Story book and the family gathered in a circle to pray.  Sylvia was raised in a Baptist church and was born again at the age of 10.  She started teaching children in the Baptist Church when she was 16 yrs old.  After graduating from High School, she attended McNeese State University for two years.  In 1971 Sylvia received the Baptism of the Holy Spirit.  Sylvia was still ministering to children every chance she could.  God began to birth a vision in Sylvia of children not only having a salvation experience but also receiving the Baptism of the Holy Spirit and stepping out in the giftings of the Holy Spirit.  Several years after receiving the Baptism of the Holy Spirit, Sylvia attended Faith Bible College in Tyler, Texas.  During that time when visiting a pastor and his family in San Antonio, Texas, Sylvia met the love of her life, Gary Crutchfield.  After marrying Gary and moving to San Antonio, Sylvia continued to minister to the children in their local church as well as teaching in the church’s private school, Living Faith Academy, for the duration of the school’s operation.  After 15 years at Living Faith Church, God led Gary and Sylvia to City of Refuge where they have been a member for over 30 years.  In 2014 Sylvia was ordained as the Children’s Pastor.
